Mugs of this type were the work of Peter Pots potter Janet Pinsonneault (1940-2007), a 1962 RISD graduate who worked here until 1992. She specialized in wheel-thrown pieces which were made in her home studio. The heavy proportions, carved band, and matte gray and blue glazing are typical of her style. Most of her mugs were quite small, and this one, at 4 1/2” in height, is among her larger ones. She was using a very dark throwing clay at this time, and the dark clay shows through the glaze in the bottom of the mug. This is undamaged and signed Jan/P Pots/76.
