Triangular Salad Set 1950s

Triangular Salad Set 1950s

$395.00

This set consists of a Large Triangular Salad Bowl with four smaller triangles and dates from the 1950s. The Large Triangular Salad was made as an equilateral triangle for only a short time during that decade. Previous to that and in the decades that followed, it was a scalene triangle with each side a different length. The dots on the underside of three smaller bowls were marks caused by the perforated kiln shelves on the lowest level of the new propane-powered kiln acquired in 1954. These were used for only a sort time and few pieces show these marks. The other pieces were fired on upper shelves in the kiln. This was the earliest version of brown glaze and it shows a lot of blue as it flows into the white. Several different signatures are on this set; the one shown is a familiar one and is thought to be that of Bob James, who was finishing and signing in the 1950s. Glossy, as-new condition, some hairline glaze cracks in the bottom of one small bowl. Large bowl about 9 ½ -10 “ across, small ones 5 1/2”.
